Advent
in Salzburg, Austria
December 16, 2010 to December 23, 2010
Hosted by Maestro Alan Heatherington
Join Alan Heatherington for a glorious music lovers' week in Salzburg – Mozart’s birthplace. Where the Advent markets are among the finest in Europe!
Salzburg, Mozart’s birthplace, is a delight from the first sight of the outline of the Hohensalzburg Fortress, the symbol of the power of the prince-archbishops. The city’s picturesque streets with their wrought-iron signs, its spacious squares with sculptured fountains and the noble architecture of its buildings inspired by bishops with a passion for construction, leave memories which linger for years. The Advent markets are among the finest in Europe, and each day brings a fresh touch of winter’s delights in this remarkable town, nestled between the Bavarian Alps and the Salzkammergut. Soak up the atmosphere in which the music of Mozart has reigned for nearly 250 years, and feel the gentle pace of old-world culture in a spacious pedestrian zone interrupted only by the clattering of horse-drawn carriages.
