Concerto Competition

Since 1997, Ars Viva has been host of the annual Steinway Concerto Competition, which nurtured aspiring pianists by giving the winner of the competition the opportunity to perform a full concerto with the Ars Viva orchestra. Numerous winners of this competition have gone on to have exceptional professional performing careers.

In 2011 Ars Viva collaborated with the Music Institute of Chicago to honor a beloved teacher, Emilio Del Rosario. The new young artist division is part of the larger Emilio del Rosario Piano Concerto Competition. Brenda Huang, Competition Director and faculty member at the Music Institute of Chicago said, “The new young artist division is an important addition to our competition. Emilio del Rosario dedicated his life to the art of teaching and nurturing pianists to the highest of standards. We hope to continue his legacy of excellence by providing the next generation of pianists an opportunity to perform with a professional orchestra and to help them in realizing their musical potential.” We look forward to partnering with Music Institute of Chicago in the coming years to showcase gifted young pianists.

In 2009 Ars Viva began to host another competition in collaboration with the Music Institute of Chicago: the Music Institute of Chicago (MIC) Young Artist Concerto and Aria Competition. This competition is for non-piano students at the Music Institute.

The winners of these two competitions are given the opportunity to perform with either the Ars Viva Symphony Orchestra or the Lake Forest Symphony (also conducted by Maestro Heatherington).

For information on how to register for these competitions, please contact the Music Institute of Chicago.
